Churchie & Yalari Endowed Scholarships
For almost 20 years, Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) and Yalari have shared a belief that every young person should have access to quality educational opportunities and experiences.
Since 2008, more than 30 Indigenous students from regional and remote communities across Australia have called Churchie their home away from home. Together, Churchie and Yalari have opened pathways to education, leadership and personal growth. Equally, Yalari students have enriched the life of the school through their culture, perspectives and contributions to the Churchie community. They become classmates, friends, leaders and valued members of the Churchie family.
The power of education to change lives and create new possibilities is undeniable. Having witnessed that impact firsthand, Churchie has made a commitment to ensure Indigenous education remains part of the fabric of the school for years to come.
Now, that partnership is entering a new chapter.
Churchie and Yalari are working together to establish six endowed scholarships, creating a permanent source of support for Indigenous students at Churchie. By preserving the original capital and using investment income to fund scholarships, the endowment will support students year after year.
In many ways, the endowment reflects a shared commitment to being good ancestors, investing in a future that today’s students, families and communities will continue to benefit from for years to come.
Together, Churchie and Yalari are demonstrating what is possible when education, community and long-term commitment come together, creating a legacy that will continue well beyond those who helped build it.
Will's story: Guided by family, driven by purpose
At 13, Will Munro was living between Moree and Boggabilla in north-west New South Wales – strong family, deep culture, close community – when an English teacher at his school in Toowoomba encouraged him to apply for a Yalari scholarship. A few weeks later, Yalari Founder Waverley Stanley arrived in person to explain what accepting it would mean: leaving regional Australia behind for Churchie, a boarding school in Brisbane.
In 2008, Will joined one of Yalari’s early scholarship intakes and began at Churchie.
