Strategic Plan

Yalari yalari

We believe education is the key to generational change

Yalari places Indigenous children from regional and remote Australia into boarding school partnerships, then walks alongside them through school, graduation, and into adult life. Three strategic priorities guide the work between 2026 and 2028: strengthening student outcomes, connecting alumni with intent, and expanding the community of support that makes both possible.  The plan sets out what Yalari will do, and how it will measure success.

Our direction

Yalari's vision is to be one of Australia's great educational and leadership foundations for Indigenous people from regional and remote Australia.

Each priority has a defined set of actions and measures of success: create equitable opportunities and outcomes for successive generations of Indigenous children; develop programs that support students and alumni to become qualified, contributing, culturally connected, and influential Australians; and honour all Australians by sharing Indigenous cultures through stories, healing, laughter, and truth.

The 2026-2028 Strategic Plan translates that purpose into three connected priorities. Stronger student outcomes produce alumni ready to lead. Alumni who lead expand what Yalari can offer the next generation. A growing community of support makes both possible.

What we know

What the evidence shows

Twenty-one years of scholarships and wraparound support to more than 630 alumni shapes our plan.

Education changes trajectories

Boarding school scholarships combined with cultural and pastoral support improve Year 12 completion rates for students from regional and remote communities.

Pathway support beyond graduation

A secondary school ATAR is just the first stepping stone. To turn educational opportunity into lifelong leadership, Yalari provides alumni with structured wrap-around support covering housing, career mentoring, and mental wellbeing.

Culture as foundation

Programs that keep students connected to identity, family, and community produce better academic and wellbeing outcomes. Yalari's camp program is built on this evidence.

Succession is strategy

Building pathways for alumni into leadership is how Yalari sustains impact across generations.

Scale depends on depth of support

Yalari's ability to grow is directly tied to the strength of its partner school, donor, government, and community relationships.

Cultural safety is a daily practice

Staff who can engage respectfully and confidently with Indigenous students, families, and communities are central to how Yalari operates.

Delivering outcomes

How we work

Yalari's approach is a connected set of programs, relationships, and practices that support students from Year 7 through to adult life.

Aspire Academic program

Targeted tutoring, career action planning, and structured academic support from Year 7 through to post-school pathways.

Thrive Wellbeing Program

Pastoral support for students living away from home. Helps young people from regional, rural, and remote areas adjust to boarding life, manage stress, and build resilience.

Culture and connection camps

A growing camp program keeps students connected to identity, community, and each other. Cultural connection is built into the student experience.

The Yalari Way

How Yalari works with every partner school to build culturally responsive environments for students.

Student Support Officers (SSOs)

A more connected SSO model, covering the full student journey from high school through to alumni. Wraparound support helps young people stay connected to family, culture, and Country while away from home.

Alumni pathway support

Support carries on from student life. Career planning starts in Year 10, and after graduation Yalari supports alumni through housing, employment, education, and life skills.

Alumni leadership programs

Support continues into leadership and community: mentoring, business and arts incubators, and community project funding give alumni the tools to lead, and to bring others with them.
