Empowering Jay's Dreams

Jay Campbell, a Bundjalung and Yuin man from Casuarina, has made remarkable strides from his roots in a small coastal community to international fashion runways. His journey into the world of modelling was propelled by foundational experiences at The Southport School, where he attended on a Yalari scholarship.

At The Southport School, Jay’s unique perspectives and talents were nurtured, giving him the confidence and skills needed to pursue his aspirations beyond traditional academic and career paths. The supportive environment, coupled with the opportunities to engage with diverse activities, prepared Jay for the challenges and excitements of life after school.

Continuing his modelling career, Jay is soon striding into international runways, with significant milestones including Melbourne and Sydney Fashion Week. He showcased designs for Solid Ochre, a brand created by Nathan McGuire that celebrates Indigenous culture and connection to Country. This opportunity was not just a professional engagement for Jay but a moment of profound personal significance. He expressed his excitement and pride in representing an Indigenous brand that resonates with his heritage and values.

“It was such a cool experience being able to go to Melbourne and walk for an Indigenous brand that is being recognised around the country,” Jay remarked on his experience at Melbourne Fashion Week. His participation in such events highlights the growing recognition and appreciation of Indigenous culture in mainstream fashion, showcasing it on national and global stages.

Jay’s modelling career continues to flourish, with contracts extending across Europe and America, where he brings his cultural heritage along with his personal style to the international fashion scene. His journey from a scholarship student at The Southport School to a celebrated model on global runways exemplifies how educational opportunities can open doors to diverse and rewarding careers.

As Jay continues to make his mark in the fashion industry, his story serves as an inspiration to young Indigenous individuals aspiring to showcase their culture and talents to the world. With each runway he walks, Jay not only represents a brand but also his community, bringing the stories and spirit of the Bundjalung and Yuin people to the forefront of the fashion world.
