How We Place Our Students
Yalari takes great care in every placement. Our team visits each student and their family in their home community, taking the time to listen, learn, and understand their story. This personal approach helps us see each child’s strengths, interests, and goals, both academic and personal, so we can match them with a school where they’ll feel supported and have the best chance to succeed.
While some students study in Toowoomba, others attend Yalari’s partner schools across Australia. Wherever they are placed, every Yalari student is surrounded by care, guidance, and encouragement to learn, grow, and build a future grounded in pride, connection, and opportunity.
How to Apply for a Yalari School Scholarship in Toowoomba
Applying for a Yalari scholarship is the first step toward an exciting educational journey. Each year, we welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in regional and remote communities who are preparing to start Year 7.
Families submit an application form, and shortlisted students are visited at home so our team can get to know them personally. These visits help us understand each child’s story, goals, and strengths to ensure they’re placed in a school where they can thrive.
Successful applicants are then matched with one of Yalari’s partner schools, such as The Glennie School or Toowoomba Grammar School, or another school within our national network.
Applications for 2026 are now closed. Applications for students commencing Year 7 in 2027 will open in December. Complete an Expression of Interest to be notified when they open.
What Makes Yalari Scholarships Different
A Yalari scholarship is more than financial support. It’s a long-term partnership that helps students grow in every part of their life. Each scholarship provides full tuition and boarding from Year 7 to Year 12, but it’s the ongoing care and connection that truly set Yalari apart.
Every student becomes part of the Yalari community, supported by our team of Student Support Officers who stay in regular contact with families and schools. This network ensures that students feel safe, understood, and encouraged as they adjust to life away from home.
Cultural identity is at the heart of everything we do. Students are supported to stay connected to family, community, and Country while developing the skills and confidence to pursue their dreams.
With more than 700 scholarships offered since 2005, Yalari continues to help young Indigenous Australians build bright, independent futures.
