Exploring Future Pathways: Year 11 ‘My Future’ Camp

Each year, Yalari hosts the Year 11 ‘My Future’ Camp, bringing together students from across Australia to explore potential career paths as they prepare to complete high school. Held in August, at Bond University, this inspiring weekend offers a mix of career-focused sessions, wellness activities, and opportunities for cultural connection.

Through a series of sessions, students identified their values, strengths, and interests to help shape fulfilling career paths. They then explored the study requirements and entry pathways for various professions, gaining a clearer sense of the options available to them.

For many, a highlight of the weekend was a careers roundtable featuring representatives from Yalari’s partner organisations. Here, students had the chance to ask industry professionals about their day-to-day roles, gain practical insights, and better understand what it takes to pursue their chosen fields. Tristan Donnelly, who is currently studying at St Ignatius’ College Riverview, shared, “I loved the experience of Year 11 Camp at Bond, especially since we got the chance to see what it feels like to live on a university campus.

Tristan, who aspires to have a career in project management, particularly enjoyed hearing directly from project managers about the skills and pathways involved. “Having the chance to talk to different people at the career round table lunch was another great opportunity, especially since I got to ask a range of questions I had about career paths” he said. “I’m hoping to go into a Bachelor of Project Management once I finish high school.

Nicolas Offroy, Principal Consultant at one of Yalari’s partners Turner & Townsend, attended the camp to share his career journey and inspire the students. “The Year 11 ‘My Future’ Camp was an inspiring experience, speaking with 31 bright and ambitious students about my personal career journey – the opportunities, the challenges, and the diverse career pathways available at Turner & Townsend,” said Nicolas.

“The highlight of my day was witnessing the ambition, passion, and maturity of the students as they discussed their future careers. These young minds are our future, and it is encouraging to see such dedication and enthusiasm as they take steps towards their goals.”

Students returned home with new insights into the possibilities that lie ahead for life after school, and inspired to take the next steps towards their career.
