Empowering Jondayah's Dreams

Jondayah Martin’s journey from the tranquil shores of Thursday Island to becoming a beacon in the public relations industry encapsulates the transformative power of education and opportunity. Her story is a vivid illustration of how a determined spirit, supported by the foundational backing of scholarships and mentoring, can lead to remarkable achievements.

Raised in the remote community of Thursday Island, Jondayah’s educational journey began with a significant leap—receiving a Yalari Scholarship to attend St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School in Brisbane. This move, thousands of kilometres away from home, was the first of many bold steps she would take towards crafting a future filled with promise and purpose.

At St Margaret’s, Jondayah not only adjusted to a new life in a bustling city but also thrived in an environment that polished her academic and personal skills. Her resilience was further bolstered by the Bond University Indigenous Scholarship, allowing her to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and International Relations. Here, Jondayah’s potential began to unfurl through a series of enriching experiences.

She took on leadership roles, such as President of the Student Society for Indigenous Awareness, and ventured as far as New York City to participate in the WFUNA International Model United Nations Conference, honing her skills in global diplomacy and communication.

Her internship at Bastion Amplify, formerly known as Promedia Public Relations, was a pivotal moment. It not only provided real-world experience but led to a full-time position upon her graduation in 2021, recognising her talent and dedication. Jondayah’s ascent in her career reached a new height with her recent accolade as the Best New PR Talent of the Year at the 2023 CommsCon Awards. Jondayah’s narrative is more than just personal success; it is a beacon for other Indigenous students, demonstrating the profound impacts of educational opportunities and the doors they can open. Yalari is proud to have been a part of her story, and we celebrate her continuing success as she shapes a path that not only highlights her heritage but also paves the way for future generations.
