2018 Yalari Orientation Camp | 8-12 January 2018 | The Southport School
In 2018, Yalari is delighted to welcome a further 47 Indigenous children to the Rosemary Bishop Indigenous Education Scholarship Program. The children, who are all from regional, rural and remote communities across Australia will take their place alongside the 142 students currently on Yalari boarding school scholarships.
In preparation for their six-year boarding school journey, the children attended the 12th annual Yalari Orientation Camp at The Southport School on the Gold Coast. Joined by 39 returning Year 8 & 9 students and 12 Senior School Leaders, the Camp offered attendees a chance to learn about boarding school life, what to expect and how to develop strength and resilience. They were able to meet and get to know other children who are also on Yalari scholarships, as well as their Student Support Officer (SSO), the person who will be helping them settle into their new school.
The Orientation Camp is an example of Yalari’s unprecedented level of support for all scholarship students. This support is provided through Yalari’s unique activities, programs and processes — from selection and transition, to student support and personal development, and post-school and Alumni. A passionate and dedicated team of professionals throughout Australia support the students, their families and partner schools on a daily basis.
Thank you to event partners: The Leroy and Joy Brauer Perpetual Charitable Trust, CLSA Chairman’s Trust and Greyhound Australia. Thanks also to The Southport School, who have now hosted the event for the fifth consecutive year.
