Parent Interview

A level of support by the parent/guardian for the student and the program is to be expected. The parent/guardian interview would ascertain the feelings and attitudes towards the following issues:

  1. Encouragement for the student when they return for school holidays;
  2. Be aware of jealousy from siblings/friends;
  3. An active interest in the student's activities;
  4. Contact Yalari if any problems arise as soon as possible;
  5. Following a means test, certain financial support e.g. stationary or pocket money;
  6. Support for other parents/guardians who also have children on the scholarship program and away at boarding school.

Student Interview

Some possible questions:

  1. Why do you want to go to boarding school?
  2. What do you do when you get home from school?
  3. Tell us about your friends?
  4. Tell us about your brothers and sisters and mother and father?
  5. Do you get much homework? When do you do your homework?
  6. What sports do you play? How do you get to the games and training?
  7. What do you do around the house to help Mum?
  8. What's the longest holiday you've ever been on?
  9. Do you sleep over at friend's places often?
  10. What do you think you might like to do when you leave school?

Fee Guidelines

Yalari Limited will pay for the following items as part of the agreed arrangements for the scholarship recipients:

  • Boarding Fees – Yalari will cover the financial difference between the ABSTUDY designated allowance and the scheduled boarding fees;
  • Tuition Fees – Yalari will cover the financial difference between the ABSTUDY designated allowance and the scheduled tuition fees;
  • Uniforms;
  • Textbooks and
  • Laptop Hire (any loss or damage to the laptop will be met financially by the Parents/Guardians).

Parents/Guardians are required to pay for the following:

  • $150 per term (4 terms) a total of $600 per year);
  • Pocket money for the students;
  • Student travel to and from school;
  • Personal toiletries for the students;
  • Purchase of any non-uniform personal clothing and accessories;
  • Haircuts;
  • Excursions;
  • Entertainment;
  • School photographs;
  • Musical equipment hire;
  • Personal and specific Sporting equipment , e.g. football boots, swimming goggles, cricket bats and etc. (excluding school sports uniform)
